The title sequence is there really to give people credit for contributing to the film and to let the audience know who stars in film and who it was produced by. The production and distribution companies in particular as they are the ones who are putting money into the film. It is also good promotion for the companies. Big name stars usually have it written into theire contract where their names will appear and it is the well known who are credited first to really attract the audiences attention.
