Genre and Subgenre

Genre and Subgenre

Genre:
In film, genre relates to similarities in narrative elements which the films are constructed from. A few film genres include; thriller, horror, sci-fi, drama, action, musical, comedy and romance.

Subgenre:
Subgenre is another attribute that a film may contain for example a horror/thriller would contain gory, bloody scenes and possibly violence with sharp twists and turns to build tension and suspense within the film.

A subgenre that really inspires us would be psychological thrillers such as Psycho, The Shinning and The Sixth Sense.

We are interested in how thrillers effect people on a daily basis as most psychological thrillers mess around with the protagonists mind, this builds tension within the film by showing the characters unstable emotional states, in combination with a sense of mystery and thriller.
