Intertextuality

Research on Intertextuality

Intertextuality means shaping and depicting a visual connection between films (copying an idea and recreating it to add your own touch in a sense). A lot of films tend to borrow from one another. These borrowed ideas could include approach's of similar camera shots/angels, use of sound which may be related to another film and possibly use of effects/editing. These are a few which the viewer may find are in other films and can relate to the one which they are currently watching.

This scene is from The Exorcist, which has the scene of the exorcism of Regan

This scene has been borrowed with their own twist of humor in Scary Movie 2. Mise en scene (the setting and characters) and some editing were borrowed to create intertextuality.
