Research on Intertexuality

Research on Intertexuality

Intertexuality is the visual similarities in films such as camera angles, aspects of Mise en scene, sound and editing. These have been borrowed by other films so they can re-create it in their own way. Intertexuality isn't seen as copying, it is borrowing an aspect of a scene and then re-creating it with the same visual references similar to other films. Below are the scenes of the same visual references:

Physco film opening:

The Stepfather (2009)

Both of these scenes had the same visual references such as the setting was in the bathroom, it was bloody, shower curtain falls to the ground and they had a knife. Also the fast pace non-diegetic sound created a chilling atmosphere. Both these film openings could influence our own thriller film by using intertexuality to re-create a good, physiological thriller.
