Titles Research and choice

I did a little more research into titles and our group have decided to base our title conventions on another psychological thriller Se7en:

• Actor 4

Though Se7en's titles are quite simple and limited, we decided to add some extra titles such as 'edited by' and 'music by' to give our opening a bit more of a realistic and professional feel. Unlike Se7en our titles are in blood red to connote blood and the killing that is going to happen in the actual film - the red symbolises danger. Just like Se7en, our titles appear in different places on the screen, to help keep our opening interesting. We also used a distorted font style similarly to Se7en to portray the character's disturbing thinking and mind. Here is the evidence: 

Our Company idents

During the editing process we added in two company idents in the beginning of the opening; these are Candi Studio and Marsh Media (which is the company that we created):

These are both low budget companies.

Soundtrack Pro

Final Cut Pro

In Final Cut Pro we included flashing effects to make it look distorted and disturbing which reflects on the main character's (the girl) behaviour. We also made some shots faster pace to reflect the thriller genre. 

We used Soundtrack Pro to find the sound effects we needed for our film (e.g eerie/dramatic noises) . Once we got the sounds we then imported them to our film using Final Cut Pro. 

Another thing we did was create a Distribution ident. We did this using Motion and added a couple of effects to go with it.

Below are the screen grabs showing how we created the titles and the order they appear in. Like many psychological thrillers we chose to have our titles super imposed as it looks more effective and gets the audience thinking more, similarly to the Se7en titles. We followed the conventional title sequence as we felt it suited our opening. Our real names, along with some that are made up were used in the process as well.

We used a font style that most suited the psychological/horror sub-genre. The font we chose looked distorted, linking back to the girl's behaviour. We used the red colour for our font to connote the blood and killing that happens during the actual film, relating to the horror sub-genre.

The title sequence for Se7en follows the conventional title sequence as it goes through the two idents, then the two titles and then following the two major stars who are Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. After this the title Se7en appears followed  by the other actors/tress' within the film.

Scene Inspiration

Thriller inspiration - The Orphan

The Orphan - 2009 (Thriller)

The Orphan is another film which we took a lot of inspiration from as it is a psychological thriller and has very similar aspects. The film stars Vera Farmiga as Kate Coleman and Peter Sarsgaard as husband John who struggle to cope with the lose of their third child who was stillborn. Then the couple decide to adopt a young girl called Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Throughout the film Kate  has a hunch that something maybe wrong with Esther as she seriously injured another girl. Also, her suspicion deepens when the couple find out from Sister Abigail (head of the orphanage) warning them that bad things seem to happen when Esther is around. I think one key element from The Orphan that we will interpret is that we'll have a young girl as the main character of the film to resemble innocence and deception.
