Day 1 - Filming Process
This is the first day of the filming process (behind the scenes)!
This is a video of us setting up the equipment for our psychological thriller Obsession.
This is the setting of our film - one of the rooms in our college. We covered the whole setting with white sheets because we had a problem with the other green wall; it destroyed our mise en scene.
These are the main props that we used within our film.
This video is about us trying to figure out how to work the lighting. Which includes dimming and focusing the light to maximise effect.
This is the video of Quddus doing Shireen's make up (scar on her arm).

Changes we made to the plan for our thriller film
After the feedback, my group and I decided to re-think some ideas we came up for our thriller film. We decided to change the costume of the girl as we thought it looked to modern. Instead of having her wear pink pajamas, we decided to have her wear a small dark dress and put a dark ribbon in her hair, like in the Orphan film to connote her evil hidden identity.
We also decided to not have the young girl dragging the dead body in the opening as we got feedback that it would lose the representation and character of a young girl, therefore it would not look that effective!

Changes made due to feedback from pitch
Our group decided to make a couple of changes to our plot after taking the advice we got from our pitch. One idea that we had was for our main character, a little girl, to be dragging a dead body across the floor. We had second thoughts about this, as it was felt that a young girl dragging a dead male body was inappropriate. We also decided to give our character a costume to wear: A blue dress and a ribbon, taking inspiration from The Orphan. We were advised to have close ups of the objects and mind our framing as well.
Some objects/props we need to have close ups on.

We present to you...OBSESSION
Here is a collage of the photos taken of our group during our PITCH presentation that I created in PhotoScape software!
PITCH feedback
So here's a short video of the feedback we got after our group presented the pitch. We will take consideration to everyone's comments/opinions and we will possibly change our plans slightly to make it better and to please our audience.
Our PITCH made in PREZI!!
NOTE: Our Prezi has been disabled because unfortunately the account has been removed!

What we've learned from filming the prelim exercise
- The big thing was not to zoom in for certain parts as it looks amateur and unprofessional.
- Another thing we learnt was that we should always place the actor/actress within the top section of the image-wire frame.
- We should cut certain shots to keep the film interesting.
- Stick to the brief!
- Framing in the sense that you should keep the shots tight - don't film extra space!
Evaluation of Prelim Exercise
A screen grab of the editing process of the prelim exercise. |
I feel that our Prelim exercise went well. We did put the match cut in the wrong place, however our overall film/project was good on a whole. We do have things to think about for future filming which were highlighted from this exercise, such as framing, but as a group we were able to create a good film and story. We used sound successfully and correctly using Soundtrack Pro - especially with the gunshot at the end, to keep the audience interested. We also put titles up using Final Cut Pro at the beginning of our film, to make it look professional. Our editing and camera skills aren't perfect but we managed to produce a fairly decent film from this exercise, have gained new skills and we feel much more confident about filming the actual thriller opening now because of this.

Prelim Evaluation
The Prelim exercise was a great practice before actually creating our very own film as we got to film/edit and try out different camera shots, like a taster. However, we did make a few errors such as the framing, but as a group we were
able to create a good film and story. We also put the match cut in
the wrong place, but overall our film/project was good as a whole. We added sound successfully and
correctly using Soundtrack Pro - especially with the gunshot at the end,
to keep the audience interested and to grab their attention through creating a tense atmosphere. To improve our short film, we could have added in a tense background music (that would run throughout most of the film) during the editing session to make the video more interesting to watch. We also put titles up using Final Cut
Pro at the beginning of our film, to make it look professional. Our
editing and camera skills weren't perfect or the best, but we managed to produce a
fairly decent short film from this exercise. This experience has given us the opportunity to gain new skills and we
feel much more confident about filming the actual thriller opening now
because of this. The best part was that we even had time to create a short and funny bloopers video! :D
